Can anyone advice as to what gets changed in the 1st service? is it just the oil & oil filter or are there any other bits & bobs get changed?
Also which oil is used for the 2.0 diesel, any replies appreciated

Are you on Long Life service as its 2011 since you got the Scirocco??

I think so, i'll have to check. Does it differ which oil to use whether on long life or short life?
Its just that the reminder has appeared on the dash for servicing & its done approx 15k

As far as the oil goes, no. Oil is 507 standard.

I was really asking cos when you originally posted up, it was November 2011 but no purchase month. So not sure if its 12 months from November or you had had the Scirocco a while before.

Behind it is there are some other parts changed at 2 years (or second service).

Ah OK - Fixed Servicing. Oil & Filter. They will also charge for a new sump plug as the compression washer is captive (£1.64). Target price - £102.

My car is coming up to 1 year old and has currently done 5200mls it's on longlife regime, I have approached the Dealer about servicing it and putting it on time and distance but they seem unwilling to service it. It has a free service package with it and when I bought it (used) the salesman said I could have it serviced at 1 year regardless of regime. The service book doesn't give any recommendation for annual mileage but I seem to remember VW saying that if you were doing less than 25 miles a day you should be on time and distance servicing. Any thoughts?

It should be on time and distance for that sort of low mileage. The only thing is that the free servicing may have only factored in two services rather than three. Check your small print.

Mine is just about to go for a 3rd year sevice with 4,980 miles this 12 month period. It does 2 by 6 miles a day, 4 days a week with odd long journeys generally. OIl is filthy at this point and that is after performing a mid service period oil/filter change myself at the 6 month point, 2,365 miles ago. As a consequence mine falls into the service tables known as Severe Operating Conditions.

Out of the list of what constitutes S.O.C.'s, these hit my servicing considerations:

- Regular short trips or stop and go operation in urban traffic.
- High percentage of cold starts.

This means things get changed at the 12 months, definitely like oil. But also for me this time round the spark plugs are earlier than 4 years or 40,000 miles, ie, 3 years (S.O.C. asks for 2 years) at 17,100 miles. And they look like they need changing despite no wear. Their condition looks like some 40,000 mile plugs I saw recently.

Very strange indeed - I would go to another dealer straight away. You should be on time and distance regime, no question about it with such low mileage. You should be getting your car serviced no longer than twelve months after the previous one.

As an aside if you take out the service package on a new vehicle the regime is compulsary time/distance servicing.

I'm going to speak to the Dealer again tomorow and check that they understand, if they refuse i'll take it to a closer Dealer. I'm only using them because I bought it there and the sales service was good and I like to build up a good relationship and return in the future with confidence. If they fail at the easy stuff I don't return. Thanks for the advice.

I spoke again to the Dealer explained that I'm doing mainly short stop start town driving and they agreed it needed to be serviced and I've booked it in. The service receptionist must of been having an off day when I called last time.

Does anyone know how much engine oil goes into the scirocco when doing an oil change?

Thanks for that, i take it the oil filter is at he front of the engine which can be seen approx 6 to 10" below the engine cover if i'm right?

Don't know mate, not really had a look under the bonnet to see where everything is. After having a,lovely V6 it'shard to get excited about a diesel so I only go under the bonnet to check oil and fill screenwash:-P

Oil Filter is on the front opposite side to the alternator (gearbox side). Down the front as you say at 6 - 10 inches, with a black cap usually which requires a large socket to undo. You may need to disconnect a valve electrical connection above it to gain full access.

The filter is the paper cartridge type, not a metal cannister screw-on type. When you get the filter, it should have the rubber 'O' ring inside the box that needs to be replaced around the cover cap. Check the new filter has a little 'O' ring on the bottom spout as well. Both are renewed with a filter change.

Replacement Oil Filter should be part number 071 115 562C, check with VW Parts Dept when buying.

Tightening toque for the filter housing cover cap is 25Nm.
The sump plug should also be replaced as the captive sealing washer is compressive - part N90813202, torque 30Nm.

OIl is VW50700 standard and 4.3 litres with filter change for the 140 PS and 170PS oil capacity, 4.0 litres without filter change. NB VW00504/50700 combination oil can be used.

Thanks for your confirmation mate, yes i noticed the oil filter with a hex plastic cap down past the engine cover but had to be sure for certain. The oil filter which i bought from a vw dealer has 03L 115 562 printed on the box so i hope its still the right one even though the 2nd 2 digits are different & i've got the oil.
