Does your Roc still turn heads?

Post by gibbsy »

It's been around for a while now and at first it was quite a rare sight on the roads. Now I generally see one or two a day. But my Roc was gleaming after a good wash and chammy and I was lucky to find a parking space in the middle of my local town. As I went to the bank a man and woman stood and looked at the Roc. When I came back to the car my wife said that two men had studied the car for several minutes from every angle.

But perhaps the best compliment came from an American gentleman, who was looking at the Roc when we opened the boot and said ''Gee, that certainly is a pretty dawg''. Honest.

I took mine to the Blackpool illuminations a few weeks ago with my boyfriend, his sister and mum. Half of the people sitting on the strip were looking at my car more than the lights. My boyfriends sister and mum were counting the amount of people that looked and well over 20 heads were turned! It was slightly embarrassing to be honest haha!

Are you sure they weren't just looking at you because you are a family of freaks :-)

Couldn't resist and no offence intended :-)

It certainly turned my head and that's all that matters. I'm not really that bothered what other people think.

Less often than it used to do 3 plus years ago. Back then it was a rarity and most folk hadn't seen one before.
Now most car enthusiasts are fully aware of the Roc and don't turn to look. Its the less car savvy people like Gibssy's man and woman and the yank who have not really seen or noticed it before who tend to give the admiring glances now.

Yup, people do still look at mine although I no longer get peope asking "Is that the new Golf?" or "What IS that?". Just the other day I pulled into a service area for a cig and a chap walked up and said "I see loads of them these days and they still stand out, bloody gorgeous motors".

Mind you, another fella said "VW are just trying to copy the Astra aren't they?", fortunately I didn't have a cricket bat in my hand at the time ;)

Really, I thought it was the otherway round Vauxhall tried to make the Astra GTC look like the Scirocco, plus all the other manufacturers bringing out new coupes use the VW as the benchmark.

We took the very pretty Cocker Spaniel for a walk this morning and another couple approached us and said that they've always admired our Roc and could they have a look inside, plus the usual questions about power and economy. What they really liked was my enthusiasm for the DSG as they do want an auto.

So they're going to our local dealer where we bought ours and are going to order a 140 Tdi DSG. I must ask VW for commission. :p

Definitely in the early days I noticed people looking at my car (2009), but cant say that I have noticed anyone really looking at it recently. :(

My next door neighbour wants to buy it off me if I sell it, but don't intend to sell it on for a good while yet!

I never get anybody asking me any questions about mine. Plus, only a handful of people ever turned heads to look at it and that was three years ago when still rare.

I still love mine and I'm struggling to find a better looking coupe at a similar price (e.g. GT86 just isn't as nice in the flesh but is supposed to be incredible to drive). The Scirocco's design is understated and classy (just how I like my motors)
Car now at docks waiting to board ship. Due to sail Sat 24 Oct! 23/10
Car now at a UK port being checked. 26/10)
Car still at the port of Sheerness until 3 Nov. Grrr 29/10
Car at dealers and being prepped. 3/11
