Buying a used scirocco

Post by mtbwales87 »

Hi Guys,

I'm looking at buying a used scirocco, 2009 2.0 tsi gt.

My question is, is 60,000 miles for a 2009 model decent or higher than the average?

How do they hold up, or is 60,000 hardly anything considering engines these days?

Any thoughts would be much appreciated.

20,000 miles a year is by no mean high. Maybe higher than average, but not concerningly so.

I picked up my 09 plate TDi earlier this year with 36k on the clock which I thought was pretty low, especially for a diesel.

I would say 20,000 miles is very high per year, average probably about 10-12k. That aside so long as the car has been looked after and serviced properly, no reason why it should not give trouble free motoring for years to come. 60,000 miles in that time is likely to have been motorway miles which is far better mechanically than 60,000 start/stop journeys.

Your looking at around £16,000 (dealer price) for a 10 plate 210 GT with good selection of options and around 18,000 miles (just been comparing resale value of mine online).

So for 60,000 miles I'd expect it to be quite a bit cheaper. Also worth considering the 2010 model is nice inside and sounds a bit better with the 210 ps engine.

I can't comment on the engine as I had a diesel but 60k doesn't scratch the surface on the Scirocco as long as its been looked after. Mine still felt as tight as the day I got it after 70k in three years

Clearly I'm in the minority here. Maybe that's because I moved on my last car with 187,000miles on the clock!

sold my last from new Audi A3 with 167,000 miles on the clock for £7K by next August my Scirocco should have done around 115,000 when i sell it and hoping for around 10K. It all depends how you look after them
If you see S9 CTC driving around give us a wave I do 40,000 miles a year it gets lonely out there

10k for a 115k mile scriocco might be a bit of a tall ask, mine was 13k with 41 on the clock and it's immaculate

I bought a 58 plate with 60k on the clock a year ago next week, full service history. Was not put off by it as n identical car spec wise was another £3k for very low mileage. Personally not scared by high miles as previous people have said, mostly mway so little stress. Wasn't even scared by dsg despite the doomsayers. 10k miles on and still love it, not had a car better.
