I’ve searched the forum for this query and although there is a lot of information it seems everyone has pretty specific issues with their RNS510 so doesn’t really reflect my issues.
Basically I have just upgraded from an RCD510 to an RNS510 (C Version). I accepted that there maybe some problems that would need resolving by some recoding work, I have listed these below numerically so if anyone can actually help on individual issues it would be easier.
1. Voice control for telephone or Sat Nav does not work. If I press the star key on the unit it asks me to say a command but never recognises anything I say. If I press the voice control on the steering wheel or roof console absolutely nothing happens apart from the stereo is muted.
2. I have parking sensors but since the upgrade when I reverse the screen now only changes to show the illustration of the rear of the car but does not show the distance bars and does not indicate if I am getting close to an obstacle.
3. Is the RNS unit a single cd player as my RCD was a 6 disc?
4. What firmware is the latest version and would I benefit from it, I’m not sure how to identify the firmware currently loaded in the unit, how would I discover this?
5. What do I need to get video in motion working? Is there any risk to doing this modification to the unit?
Thanks in advance guys and I hope these queries don’t bore people as I often feel that my lack of knowledge is a burden to others.
RCD to RNS queries
Re: RCD to RNS queries
Voice control - do you have Bluetooth in the car? I think you would need to buy additional wiring to allow the star button on the RNS to work as by default the car will only have wiring from the mic to the Bluetooth unit.
Parking sensors - this could be related to the firmware version on the unit.
Single CD player - yes
Firmware - the latest official firmware for the C units is 27xx - newer firmwares like 38xx and 4xxx will apparently work also. Check out vwnavi.com. You will probably need VCDS to identify the firmware unless whoever sold the unit to you has already enabled diagnostics (press and hold setup for ages and it might display a diagnostic/info menu)

Thanks for the reply.
Yer, i have the factory fitted bluetooth, its standard on the GT's so i know the mic is in the overhead console. What would the additional wiring be you mention to get the star button to work?

Re: RCD to RNS queries
To make voice control work the RNS510 unit needs be wired to the mic and the Bluetooth unit wired to the rns.
Did you self install or did a fitter install it for you as the issues voice control aside suggest the unit isn't properly coded to the equipment in your car.

Re: RCD to RNS queries
I installed it myself. All i did was remove the RCD and plug in the RNS, nothing else. I have factrory fitted Bluetooth, do you think that the mic is connected directly to the Bluetooth and needs rewiring to the RNS first?b0rk wrote:To make voice control work the RNS510 unit needs be wired to the mic and the Bluetooth unit wired to the rns.

If so how is this done?

Check Roccopedia and Kufatec.DE to see example on how it works.
