I know I started this thread but I was simply quoting Autocar, not necessarily my personal views.
I drove only diesels for the past 2 year prior to the Roc, and some of them were brilliant.
I was changing may car every 3-4 months as they were hire cars so got to drive a fair amount including both old and new A4 TDI, a passat, and a couple of other I can't remember now but best of all was the 320d ( sorry for mentioning BMW's again, please don't start swearing at me...)
That 2.0 179BHP Diesel engine is just brilliant.
I liked the new common rail in the new A4 I drove for a few months and thought it was a vast improvement on the old one.
One of my close friends is on his third A8, this one is his first diesel (4.0) and he won’t go back to Petrol.
I actually like diesels very much and may well go back to one at some point, but I don't for one second regret going for the 2.0TSI rather the TDI.
