DSG problem
Hi,
I've had my 2.0 Tsi a couple of weeks and seem to be having some probs with the gearbox, the car has done just under 60,000 miles but when its warm, it gets very 'juddery' on stopping and on pulling away again, anyone have any suggestions as to what might be wrong? Its still under a warranty with the garage I bought it from
Thanks

Re: DSG problem
Juddering tends to point towards faulty mechatronics unit therefore best to get it checked out while under warranty.
I assume the DSG oil and filter was changed at 40k miles

There's a bulletin out on this one. TPI 2018171/11 - 10.03.11 (latest)Blondini wrote:Hi,

As Cuprabob says, Mechatronics is faulty. Clutch control valves have wear resulting in poorer of clutch control. They will replace the Mechatronics unit.
Looking at the problem Mechatronics Build dates, your Scirocco would have to have a red coloured MFD insert in the instrument panel or built in May 2009 with a white MFD insert..

The dealers. They will recognise the TPI number on the service desk.

Hi all,
The car is out the garage today, they have a "transmission guy" coming in to take a look at it, will keep you posted on the verdict

Just had a phone call and it is the mechatronic failing so they are going to replace it

Re: DSG problem
I'm in a similar situation, but with a 6 speed 59 plate. It's at the VW garage now and they claim it's not 'faulting'. They had a engineer experience it prior to booking it in but now want to reproduce it. I've told them they need it warmed up before it will go jerky. Mine tends to do it when you pull away or when you reverse. Just isn't as smooth as it use to be.
They have it another few days to reproduce the problem but can see them coming back and saying they can't reproduce it so can't fix it.
Any advice would be appreciated to get them take it seriously.
Paul.

That fault on a 6speed clutch tends to be worn Mechatronics clutch valve seats.cow wrote:I'm in a similar situation, but with a 6 speed 59 plate. Similar to above, but the symptom usually has fault codes with it.

Re: DSG problem
Friend of mine with a mk5 jetta 2010 with the same dq200 as you guys has been without his car for three weeks going on four. Dsg would not engage gear in D. Dealer swapped mechatronic but it still doesn't work. Dealer says they are waiting on a response on whether to swap entire gearbox.

Re: DSG problem
Thanks RW1, the VW garage came back today and said they found a small leak and would need to investigate the leak further. Does anyone know if there are sensors on the gearbox to show low oil? I've not seen it dropping any when parked... might just be a coincidence. Mine is a later 6 speed with a white LCD so I don't think TPI 2018171/11 covers mine :-(

Re: DSG problem
Not that I'm aware of. Not like the engine with an oil level sensor which readable in VCDS diagnostics measuring blocks and shows in the driver's MFD as a warning.
Filling/(checking) is done by the older way of filling through the filler until its full providing the internal oil temp is below 50'C.
Lack of oil would explain given the way the gearbox works in the 6 speed version. Oil won't necessarily drip off if only a small amount rate over a long time. Underbody airflow will tend to make spray it over the underside in a thin film which then dries up with road dust. May be a worth a look underneath the car for a large darker oily damp/dirty area downstream of the gearbox on the left side.

Re: DSG problem
Thanks C,
I'll wait and see what VW do... as they still have the car at the moment. Guess the only worry is if the DSG box has been damaged due to the 'low' oil.
Will update the forum when I found out more.

Re: DSG problem
Update: VW garage called today and said it is leaking from the flywheel, they have to order a part (which is apparently on back order) they also said they would check the gearbox further while it is stripped down for signs of damage. I'll update when I hear anything else.

Re: DSG problem
After three years my DSG box became a little hard on changes, not as smooth as when it was brand new.
I just dig a basic setting reset via vagcom and it was back to being as smooth as butter.

Re: DSG problem
Update: The car was returned with the new DMF (Dual Mass Flywheel), but after a couple of days and a decent run the cars back to lurching in 1st and reverse gears. Went back to VW and a senior engineer went out with me to experience it, they have booked it back in again for further tests. Watch this space!

Re: DSG problem
Update: They have now changed the clutch pack and it seems to have fixed the jerks in 1st and reverse. Fingers crossed that's the last of the issues with the DSG for the time being.

Re: DSG problem
Update: It reversed the problem... now the car's DSG jerks when it drops from 2nd to 1st gear. It only does it when fully warmed up and it's now back in the VW shop...third time lucky. I'm going to have my own car park space in there soon
