New Tyres

Post by phil4 »

Sorry, if this has already been done to death but a couple of search didn't find anything concrete.

As the miles go on, I'm starting to think of tyres replacements. My other "driver focused" car, used to run Bridgestone RE's, and made the move to Toyo Proxes T1R, which gave a very nice change in on-limit handling.

As my Scirocco is currently on the original Bridgestone's, I wondered if anyone had tried Toyo's with any success, or whether there was any other "must have" tyre for this car?

New Tyres

I've just fitted Uniroyal RainSport 2's to the front, replacing conti 3's

The difference is great - fantastic grip, and aqua planing is now non-existent (motorway to Heathrow - hit a flood at 70+, not a whimper!)

They've stopped Toyo T1r's now, as they would have been my first choice.

T1R's on my former MK5 GTI was one of the biggest mistakes I made with that car. IMO, PSS's (currently have) or Eagle F1 2's.

Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2's all the way for me!

Used these on my last car (Leon FR - they came highly reccomended from a forum) and was very impressed - quiet, comfy, great grip in dry and wet, they also have a pretty large rim protector so offer very good protection for your alloys. If I had to give a downside it would be wear, but there not that bad at all really - depends how heavy your right foot is.

Just ordered / recieved a couple for the front of my Scirocco, ordered online from camskill - cheapest place I could find.

Many thanks for the feedback, I'll give one of these a whirl :)

Not saying you are wrong, but what suggests that to you? I notice they're still listed on Toyo's own site, and can be ordered from Blackcircles.

On black circles it said replaced by a newer model ! (235x40x18)

There's probably some stock still around though.

Now have these on the front of my R. Very happy with them, vast improvement over factory fit bridgestones IMHO. Just need to change the rears.

At the moment the most performance tyres are the Michelin Super sport. They are expensive but their performance are at the top :D I have these tyres on my Scirocco R and I am very soddisfied ;) I advise you Michelin if you are looking for a performance tyre. Another valid tyre is the potenza S001. The choice is your!

The Michelins are not as expensive as you would think.

Camskill currently have them for £175 each for 235/35 X 19 XL

It's good if it happens to coincide with one of their offers :-)

Yep  Just need somewhere to store the tyres you don't need at the moment until you do.

Yup probably the lowest price you'll pay. I have noticed Costco have become much less competitive on tyres recently. IIRC ATS are £215 fitted and blackcircles £225. The recent discontinuance of michelin PS2's and PS3's with a 91Y index may explain the sudden price drop.
I had expected Michelin to keep the PSS's as a premium option above PS2/PS3's but obviously not.
