My baby is damaged

Post by r.gbrown »

Gutted. Was in multi story car park yesterday and waiting at give way markings for traffic to clear from the down ramp when an old Merc reversed out of a parking bay and wacked my o/s/f wing. Just didnt look. How can you miss a bright white car with headlamps on? Beats me. I was raging to say say the least. £850 to fix as needs new wing and painted etc. Bumper also will need painted. Not a mark on his old shed. My pride and joy is hurt. His insurance better sort this out quick time...............................

Nasty, and isn't it always the way that the innocent party comes off worse! So long as the other guy admitted fault and insurance all checks out, should all be ok, but so inconvenient getting quotes etc.

Looks like his insurance company will pick up the bill and might be going in next week to get fixed. Finges crossed. I havent told my own insurers, should I? I just know they will put my premium up next year even though I have max protected discount and this was not my fault.

Unfortunately, you are obliged to inform your insurers and as you say even although your NCD will be unaffected as it wasn't your fault, your premium may rise slightly as you will been seen as a higher risk as you've been involved in an accident.

Everything goes on a database these days so they'll find out anyway so best to tell them.

Also, you can choose where car gets fixed even although most insurance companies prefer their own network.

Thanks for info, guess I better tell them then. So unfair though that the innocent party ie me has to pay for someone elses stupidity :grumpy:

Its crazy indeed but I got two quotes for about the same price. No wonder insurance premiums are so high................

That sounds about right given what labour has to be put in to do the job properly.

Bumper re-paint alone will be in the order of £300 - £350.

Wing is.......
- Wheel off.
- Wing will need bumper skin removal.
- Inner mud liner out
- Wing end plate out from inside the wing
- Unbolt the old wing.
- Prep and spray new wing

Then refit all above.

Not much change out of £500 with labour at say £50 - £60 an hour plus a new wing.

Week 43 Build has happened on time! 22 Oct'09 Scirocco is at Check Point 5 in the factory
23 Oct'09 Now Complete on the dockside, 24 Oct'09 Sailed from Portugal, 27 Oct'09 In the UK,
29 Oct'09 at dealers
Driving 4th Nov. Sorted!
