Winter protection detail.
I was home alone today so took the opportunity to spend a bit of time on my own car! I am normally a wax man but thought I would try something new this year
Gtechniq is a fairly new product which has had quite some exposure on Detailing World. (7%-10% discount available on DW)
http://www.detailingworld.co.uk/forum/s ... t+gtechniq" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
It supposedly offers months of protection when applied to very clean well prepped paint
http://www.gtechniq.com/shop/3s-for-cars/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
I have been using their P1 polish by rotary on customers car for a few months, and thought I would have a go on the Roc with it by hand, as its not really in need of correction.
http://www.gtechniq.com/shop/3s-for-car ... te-polish/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
As a LSP I have their C2 Liquid Crystal
http://www.gtechniq.com/shop/3s-for-car ... ncentrate/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Ok method.
Wash 2bm with Megs Hyper wash.
Clay Bilt Hamber soft.
Polish by hand Gtechniq P1
IPA 50:50 wipedown
C2. Neat to paint, glass, plastics and rubber seals.
Results:
Happy with the look, lets see if the durability is good over the winter months.

Understand the polishing and LCP phases. What's the clay bit about? (Total noob)

Claying removes contaminants (fine dust particles, tar, airborne particles [ash cloud fallout], brake dust, tree sap, etc) that have bonded to the paint and are not ordinarily removed by washing alone, hopefully that explains the reasoning behind doing it & take a look at the detailing world link in this articles for further explanation and a brilliant how to guide

Exactly as trix says, it leaves a very clean surface which helps products bond effectively.

Re: Winter protection detail.
I'm not sure it's for me.
I live in the sticks. On the way home last night a tractor and trailer combo gave the car a mud bath, though I managed, just, to keep it out of the hedge. I might have a go in the spring. It's hard to avoid the car looking like an off roader in this weather.

I have been looking into buying some decent gear to keep my 'frog' of a Roc in good condition. I have stumbled across your post. I am assuming you bought the kit they are advertising on their site?

Sorry for being a noob, but "IPA 50:50 wipedown" what does that mean in normal chat ? The C2 was only applied to the glass and rubber seals? Or did you apply it on top of the P1 that was initially applied to the paintwork? Only reason I ask is its a tiny bottle in comparison.
Cheers

Re: Winter protection detail.
Hi, yes it cam direct from gtechniq.
The C2 (C stands for coatings) was applied neat to paint, plastic and rubber. The bottle is small, as you only use a small amount, the rest you dilute to make a Quick Detailer, to be used as a top up after washing. IPA is 'isopropyl alcohol'. used to clean the surface prior to application of the C2. Available on Ebay or chemists.
Hope that makes sense, let me know if not.
Paul.

Re: Winter protection detail.
I guess you can apply the C2 straight onto the panels after the P1 has been applied? I don't have to use the isopropyl alcohol or do I?

Re: Winter protection detail.
Yes that would be fine, P1 has no oils or fillers, so C2 will go straight on. IPA gives you a REALLY clean surface, me being fussy!lokyt wrote:I guess you can apply the C2 straight onto the panels after the P1 has been applied? I don't have to use the isopropyl alcohol or do I?

Re: Winter protection detail.
Cheers Paul for the info. Just another lil one, how much of the P1 you reckon to do one polish? As the kit bottle contains 100ml which seems a tiny amount.

Re: Winter protection detail.
I would have thought the 100ml would be enough to do the Roc. Are you machining or by hand? If you run out let me know, I have 2 1 litre bottles. Happy to send you a bit.
Paul.

Re: Winter protection detail.
I will be doing it by hand. Thats what I thought 100ml is quite a small amount so may just opt to buy a tub of wax instead (which I talk about in my other post) Cheers again Paul.

Re: Winter protection detail.
The P1 is the best polish I have come across, in terms of correction, for use by hand. You will need something to cleanse and prep the paint before putting a wax on. Durability and looks are all in the prep.
