With regard to the NOX issue, I received my letter today and find the wording slightly concerning. It states "I can confirm that there will be no change to you vehicle's engine performance, maximum torque or noise levels. The performance data already published for your vehicle including fuel consumption values and CO2 emissions, will also remain unchanged." Why are the two categories stated in different ways? There will be no change to the parameters listed in the first sentence, but no change to the performance data published for those in the second sentence including fuel consuptioon. Does that suggest that the fuel consumption might (or will) change, but within the limits of tolerance for the original published claims? Sorry, but I have great difficulty believing anything VW say these days and don't trust them an inch.
Also, why spcifically maximum torque. Why not torque delivery profile or similar? Views?

There is an easy solution, which means you don't need to worry about it. Just don't get the update done. There is no legal requirement to have the update carried out.
I certainly won't be rushing to have it done.

Fair point Bob - I have no intention of having it done soon. I'll be changing my car in the next few months so will probably leave the decision to the next owner. Just wanted to highlight a potential issue. My big decision isn't whether to have it done or not, but what to buy to replace the roc.

I think you are worrying far too much and reading into things which aren't there.

Re: Emissions - recall letter
Hi. I contacted VW about this today and it won't affect performance by the sounds of it. In fact ALL this software will do is prevent the car from entering low emissions mode when under test. Normal day to day driving is the same. It does beg the question of why should you bother.... perhaps just so when you do sell it you can say it's all up to date but that's about it
An independent air quality company have measured the real world air quality of hundreds of cars (including the affected VW diesels) and the results are very poor -
http://equa.emissionsanalytics.com/equa-air-quality-index/
It shows the VW 2012 Scirocco diesel at emitting 8 to 12 times more NOx than a Euro 6 diesel. The VW emission correction will NOT change this. NOx is the stuff that causes lung problems etc
As a point of note the new Euro 6 VW diesel scores an "A" on their testing, i.e. Euro 6 compliant
It's amazing that there's no come back on VW in the UK to ensure their diesels actually meet the Euro 5 regs they were supposed to adhere to....
