Making changes that close to the build week - i.e THE build week. Will effect when its built as certain parts will take longer to source. So I am not surprised your dealer said No.

Yup, your build standard got frozen. Otherwise the production line would be all over the place and in a mess trying to sort customer's last minute changes. The parts don't fall off shelves at the side of the line. The build delivery process starts to come together about 3 to 4 weeks before the Sciroco is assembled in Portugal. Parts arriving at the VW factory in Portugal are there because they are assigned to a customer's order. So spare stock isn't lying around.

See here Link to build & delivery process. Minor components will be on a similar time frame.

Retrofit? Your welcome to try. It's not easy.

I tried to add climate control to my order, about a month after ordering and was told no changes could be made. I always felt this was ridiculous as the car wasn't built until 8 weeks later. Thinking about it though I reckon the dealer just couldn't be bothered.

a lot of it will come down to your dealer & whether they are willing to make the changes as potentially any changes after ordering could delay your car build.
if they say yes thats fine then tell you its delayed because of it you will likely go loopy because of the delay so they are covering their back against a potential onslaught from you. also if they do not know the system very well & how late they can put in changes without effect then, again, they are covering yours & their back against delays.

it takes a very knowledgable dealer to know what they can get away with changing after ordering not to affect build.

as RW1 says the parts required for the car come together at the factory a good few weeks ahead of the actual build they don't just fall off the shelf in abundance & the planning to get them all there at that time is started I presume as soon as the car has been ordered on the main VW system.

Thanks for the comments and fair comments,
I wouldnt exactly say they were life changing components but only a small commodity so thought maybe they could have been fitted in to the build.
Maybe im behind the times of mass produced cars.
Still my own fault but to be honest the delay wouldnt have mattered because i bet the car will be at the dealers a few weeks ahead of september just sitting there....still not to worry.
Thanks again for everyones input.

So do the bog standardard ones pull as much as the electric ones i know they dont on my golf..
Saw a guy today where i was working and he had them and showed me how much they pulled in.
I also asked him if he had satnav he said not in the guise of the rns unit but his was something else which was voice directions sent by the provider and it came through the stereo unit and it had a little button to activate it just down below the light switch.........never heard of one of those.
