Does anyone know how the sensor in the oil sump works. Would using the wrong grade of oil flag up an engine management warning light ?

I've a regular run of 45 miles in my 2.0 TSI in the evening when there's not much traffic around and using my cruise control on mostly dual carriageway I can get a tad over 50mpg. Mind you, it's a light driving style that's impossible in traffic.
