Re: is the 3 door golf Gti obsolete
As far as I am aware, and have had it confirmed by a friend of mine who works for the vag group (albeit its still speculation), the new golf will be missing the R32 from the lineup and they are working on releasing the Rocco with the 4 wheel drive system and 3.6 lifted from the passat lineup! ....T...

I'm sorry but I can't quite understand the cars which they have decided to group with the Scirocco - Nissan GTR and Lambo's are hardcore! The factory 'Rocco is good but not in that league!

H&R lower the 'Rocco....
^Looks soooo much sporty and what the Scirocco should be like. It is a sports car isn't it?

Re: Autocar Handling Test
....I'm sorry, but undoubtedly impressive as the Scirocco's handling is, the standard factory one simply doesn't compare with most cars on that list - They've gotta be joking! The Elise has Lotus handling - Need I say more? The Evo X is '4WD' and comes with all the right toys straight out of the box...

Re: is the 3 door golf Gti obsolete
....I have a 5-door Mk5 GTI and have driven many 3-door versions (all heavily performance modified but that's not the point). I've also borrowed the new 'Rocco. My opinion is that the 3-door GTI is quite different from the Scirocco - Which is "better" is a very subjective opinion and up to...

Re: To DSG or not to DSG
Hi David - I'm sure you'll have already realised from a test drive that it's a particularly smooth car and feels very well planted. It has the feel of a good build quality too.
Not a car for me but that matters diddlysquat!

Re: To DSG or not to DSG
....I just need to add that DSG does not take "just minutes to learn at most" - Not regards learning the many various combinations in different driving situations to the point where it all becomes fluid and natural without thinking about it. It's not difficult but you do have a lot of opti...

Re: To DSG or not to DSG
....Chill
No need to respond as if it was a personal attack. It's just a different point of view. Are you getting a new Rocco? DSG? - Probably not but a pity because it would doubtless change your mindset.
Enjoy it anyway. Do you plan to modify it at all?

Re: To DSG or not to DSG
....Firstly I hope the tone of my words in voicing my opinions in debate did not offend - I sometimes express myself quite sharply without intending to. The carbonfibre paddle extensions are aftermarket and are also available in aluminium. My experience of cars with aluminium gear knobs are that the...

Re: To DSG or not to DSG
Pulling away could be a little tricky on the earlier ones, remember you're effectively controlling the engagement of the clutch and the throttle with one pedal when you pull away,it could be pretty jerky and hard to control your getaway smoothly and have control over the speed of the launch when you...

Re: To DSG or not to DSG
- The idling throttle is very slight/gentle and you can just hold it on the brake pedal when stationary. - No! The paddle or gears won't engage while in N. You don't need to pile on the revs with the brake on to lay down the power on the road. - You don't have to lift off whether changing up or down...

Re: To DSG or not to DSG
So in D mode you get a sort of mid range gear change for smooth unflustered driving (town and motorway stuff), S mode is the sporty red line version and M is the paddle shift. Cool. ....Exactly! Nicely and concisely put! 30 mph in 6th is a doddle. A lot of DSG drivers say they use D-mode on m...

Re: To DSG or not to DSG
....Thanks, BW - I think I know you from another forum.
In my opinion the 2.0T doesn't need a 7th gear.

Re: To DSG or not to DSG
....I've now done 52,000 miles in 3 years of DSG. I've driven a huge variety of vehicles as I've been driving for over 40 years - I've had manuals and automatics. I chose the DSG option because I was lucky enough to have a VW salesman who is a karting champ and so an enthusiast who showed me its cap...

Re: Test Drive Impressions of DSG silver Scirocco....
....I think that I may have made the mistake of expecting the Scirocco to be a performance car. She certainly could be made into one - The GT24 version has already been extremely successful. DSG is an acquired taste but I acquired it instantly! It just took time to familiarise myself to the point wh...

Re: Test Drive Impressions of DSG silver Scirocco....
One very good review. I would be very interested to see if your opinion changes at all if you get to test a car that has at least 500 miles on the clock whereby the engine brakes and suspension has had time to bed in properly. I know that there will be only minor differences but from my experience ...

Re: To DSG or not to DSG
....I've extensively (not just 10 miles) test driven the Scirocco with DSG and it's super smooth. My own Mk5 GTI is DSG and heavily modified and I've had it 3 years and wouldn't consider another car without it or a very similar transmission (Evo X). DSG really is the best of all worlds and the major...

Test Drive Impressions of DSG silver Scirocco....
Hello everyone :) I'm a Mk5 GTI driver (modified) and had a long test drive of a silver DSG new Scirocco but with no intention of buying one - My VW dealer knows me very well and offered me the drive because they wanted to know what I thought. I've written it up with 25 photos on Biali Motorsport : ...
