Re: Android head unit to replace RNS510

I am not exactly sure now (I thought it was from Ebay but can't find one in my purchase history). I know that the simple dual fakra one that I already had didn't work and I had to get one designed to work with the diversity antenna system on the Roc.

Re: Android head unit to replace RNS510

I have a double fakra adaptor on mine and FM reception is OK. Its not quite as good as with the OEM unit but is certainly usable. I don't listen to the radio much anyway but if I do I use an internet radio app I have installed (can't remembered its name, I'll check it later) . I have created a Taske...

Re: Android head unit to replace RNS510

Just a quick update. I'm on holiday this week and have had a couple of problems with the unit. Firstly, it went a day or so giving "unfortunately xxxx has stopped running" for music, disc & radio so basically all the built-in functions. My own apps carried on working and then for no ap...

Re: Android head unit to replace RNS510

Fair point. I have concentrated on the features as my main driver for doing this swap was to get a decent navigation system but to my ears it sounds just as good, if not better, than the RNS510 it replaces. I have adjusted the equalizer facility to get the sound exactly to my taste (fairly flat but ...

Re: Android head unit to replace RNS510

I've just come back from the first proper trip using the new unit, so I thought I'd do a bit of an update. The Copilot Premium navigation software is brilliant. Sensible routing, easy to use, clear information and worked faultlessly on a 380 mile round trip involving 4 different destinations. Clear ...

Re: Android head unit to replace RNS510

BMR no need for anything pre-installed. The unit comes with its own GPS aerial for which there is an ideal little recess above the radio opening and behind the vents in the dash so its completely hidden. My RNS GPS aerial used the same location and I've never had a problem with reception. Re the Dyn...

Re: Android head unit to replace RNS510

I bought it from Ebay. I've yet to really test Copilot in earnest but on trial navigations to places I know the RNS510 took me on really weird routes it is way better. You can tweek the average speed and the priority given to every different type of route motorway/dual carriageway/major roads/minor ...

Re: Android head unit to replace RNS510

It has a connector for line outs sub etc so I guess you should be able to connect it to anything. I've added another app today. I was already using the pocketgpsworld speed camera data within copilot but discovered that they do their own android app for camera warning. I've loaded it and it's brilli...

Re: Android head unit to replace RNS510

A few photos. Not great quality but gives an idea of what it can do. The photos remind me of another very minor issue. Because the USB button is just a cover for a front USB port it doesn't illuminate like the others. Pity really as I've got no need for the front USB anyway as I've run the rear one ...

Android head unit to replace RNS510

I was so frustrated with the limitations of the RNS510 especially the navigation part that I have sold mine and my Kufatec BT module and installed a chinese android headunit Eway842p. I have had it a few weeks now and have spent a lot of time playing with settings and apps etc but have now got to a ...

Re: RNS510 Excluded Roads?

Ah that explains it. I found the menu for excluded roads but they were all greyed out. I guess if you have a route planned the roads on the route come up as a list. I'll try it later but it isn't going to help in my quest to force the RNS to avoid the ridiculously narrow roads it seems to love. I've...

Re: RNS510 Excluded Roads?

Still can't find anything about the use of excluded roads and the latest maps/firmware still has a fetish for dirt tracks rather than proper roads! How hard can it be to write decent satnav software?! The roads I want to avoid are shown on the map as being narrower than A & B roads, so the mappi...

Re: RNS510 Excluded Roads?

Yes mine did that to me last week. Main road into Woolacombe and it took us off onto little more than a dirt track for a mile and a half then back onto the main road! WTF! In what world is that a good route?! I have updated the firmware and maps over the last few days (hence my question about exclud...

RNS510 Excluded Roads?

I've googled all over the place and haven't found an answer to this so far. What does excluded roads under route options actually mean? Are they set by the user? Narrow roads set by the map data? I'm hoping I can use it to stop the thing sending me down ridiculously narrow roads in Devon where my mi...

Re: New or 12-18 months old Roc ?

GeoffTT - could you give me a little info on how you ordered your car through dealdrivers - website looks a little confussing how i would go about it. I had a spreadsheet of exactly what model I wanted together with options and 2 columns for VW list price and dealdrivers price as shown on their web...

Re: Scirocco Facelift 2013 - your ideas please..

I was the one who suggested loosing the frameless doors, but for the next version, not for the facelift as I realise that is too big a change for that. As Richard A says the frozen windows issue and the frameless doors are tied in together. I can't see a single benefit to frameless doors on a hardto...

Re: New or 12-18 months old Roc ?

Hi Simon, Providing you get a good discount, I would buy new if you can. You get exactly what you want, no history to worry about and the full 3 year warranty. I used dealdrivers.co.uk and saved over £2000 off list price. I did go to the local dealer to see if they would match it, but they couldn't ...

Re: Scirocco Facelift 2013 - your ideas please..

I'd prefer to loose the frameless windows. Mine did freeze a couple of times in the winter and I just don't see the advantage of them. They are only any different from a normal door with the window down and the door open, but with climate control, I never have the windows down anyway. Having to have...

Re: Scirocco R sold :(

Hey Geoff, Do the local lads and ladettes go cruisin' along the seafront at Exmouth still ? I used to visit at weekends a few years ago and was always amused by the fine display of stereo versus exhaust note (!) Nowt like the good old roar of a Corsa 1.0 to bring the hairs up on the back of your ne...
