Re: DPF regeneration
Worth noting you can sometimes tell if it is in regen mode whilst driving as it will tell you to shift down a gear earlier than usual to keep the revs higher. If I see this happen, I just keep driving for another ten minutes or until it stops telling me to shift down.

Re: advice on purchasing new scirocco tdi - high mileagae
I suppose if it has done 15,000 to 20,000 miles a year it's more likely it has had decent runs to ensure the DPF can happily passive and active regen. My TDI170 is 8 years old / 80,000 miles and no real issues - just normal consumable items + cam-belt / waterpump job at 5 years. I've had it main dea...

Re: Emissions recall
I'll probably get mine done, as I like to live life on the edge. But they weren't ready a month or so ago at my dealership so unlikely to happen until next service. These reports of funny behaviour post update do seem at odds with the way it was originally reported. It sounded like the cheat mode on...

Re: Emissions Update
I dropped my Scirocco off at my main dealer this morning for a service. I asked about the emissions software update and they said they were not doing the Scirocco yet, but had started doing other models a couple of months ago. They suggested the software change hadn't been released for the Scirocco,...

Re: Airbag light on and MFSW wont work
Haha yeah that's what I thought too, after ringing VW today, I got the part number I need and the guy has given me a slip ring that wasn't compatable with my car that bas*ard. So looks like I'll have to find a one with the same Code second hand, £210 from VW! Did you need to code the new one you fi...

Re: Airbag light on and MFSW wont work
When I had an airbag light fault it was a duff slip ring at about three years old. Can't remember whether the buttons stopped working at the same time though, but it would make sense to my non car brain.

Re: Daytime Running Lights?
As the headlights are always on as DRLs, does moving the dial to the furthest right ("during night") actually do anything? Brightens up the dashboard lights? My 2010 GT might be a bit different as I think it is AUTO, so moving to the right just forces the dash to light up for "night&q...

Re: Rear shocks
Is it blindingly obvious when a shock needs changing? I've had it mentioned on my last couple of services (and on my wife's golf) at VW dealership but they have never failed MOT because of it. They weren't insisting it needed doing but didn't really give much explanation as to when it really would n...

Re: Really daft question i think
For what it's worth, my TDI also says DSG on any online number plate check, when it is actually a manual. Mine has the shift icons on the display.

Re: Timing belt change on tdi 170 model, who's done it?
I had mine done at 5 years (about 55k miles) including tensioner and water pump. I reasoned that at least if my car imploded between year 5 and 6 I would be able to say that I did everything possible recommended if it ended up as court action. It was about £500 or something like that at the main dea...

Re: Badger damage
I hit a fox in my wife's Golf at 70mph. Took out the radiator and had to get towed home. Whole new bumper and radiator needed, total repair bill £2300, £300 excess. As greg7288 says, unfortunately any incident where costs cannot be recovered from a 3rd party are counted as fault claims. Frankly the ...

Re: Dipped Beam Warning
I had the same issue, something had worked loose - not really sure. I had the bulb replaced initially but it came back and was intermittent. My dealer fiddled around for a few minutes somewhere near the light and it has been fine ever since. Not a great technical description!

Re: 170 GT TDI keeps going into DPF Regen
Obviously I should just RTFM, but after driving my 2.0L TDI for five years and 60k miles I've never noticed a light regarding DPF regeneration?! Have I lost my marbles? I have noted the fans running after parking up a few times.

You can check your VIN on the VW UK site. My 2010 TDI 170 is affected. I think probably the newest TDI variants are fine as they are EU6?

Re: 2.0 TDI BMT catastrophic clutch failure
It's worth considering if there is any leverage under the Sale of Goods Act (which typically covers goods up to 6 years old - irrespective of warranty length). Even though it is second hand, if you bought if from a dealer (i.e. not privately) then you still have some legal rights. The tricky thing (...

For thread completion's sake I got this done by my local dealer for the bargain basement price of £78.44 - so I could have had around 3 attempts myself I suppose!

Thanks Skippy. My fixing skills are probably on par with my forum searching skills. There is at least one step there I am likely to screw up so I will probably go dealer too.

Damaged wing mirror indicator covering
Some crazy stone or something hit my wing mirror and popped the whole mirror out, which happily seems to have been ok with me snapping it back in to place. On the back though, the clear plastic strip which covers the indicator repeater is damaged. See image below if I have got the description a litt...
