End of the line
As a past owner of two Scirocco's (1.4 TSI and 2.0 TSI GT), I just wanted to say how sorry I was to hear the Scirocco will cease production at the end of the year (I assume the reports are true). What a wasted opportunity but I always knew 'Dieselgate' would hit VW hard financially and that they wou...

Scirocco replacement
I often see comments on the board about a replacement for the current Scirocco which is now 8 years old. I think VW have got away with not launching a new model up to now because the original design of the car was so good (it still looks good). However with their current financial situation and the ...

Re: 1.4 Tsi nightmare
I had a 1.4 TSI in 2009 and keep it for two years without a spot of trouble. It was brave for VW to adopt the turbocharging/supercharging technology but it was maybe a step too far. Interestingly the 1.4 engine with a
turbo only (as used by Audi) is reliable.

Re: Inside information regarding 4th generation Scirocco
After two Sciroccos which I enjoyed very much, a year ago I jumped ship as it was clear VW was not going to spend major money on developing a new model of a (relatively) low volume coupe. I stayed within the Audi/VW group and went for the Mk3 TT and have no regrets.

Re: Extended warranty
The only caution here is that insurers price to risk so I would expect an extended warranty for the 160 bhp engine to be expensive. Incidentally I had this engine a few years back with no problems at all (admittedly low mileage).

Re: 180 bhp not enough?
I take your point but the Scirocco will handle more power so why not have it available to those that want it; the TT now has 180 bhp and 230 bhp options?
I think the market positioning comment is relevant; the Scirocco GT can't be seen to have more power than the Golf GTI.

Re: 180 bhp not enough?
That's fine but there are issues around both insurance and warranty. I know there are those that conceal the fact that they have modified their car but they are taking a risk.

180 bhp not enough?
I cannot understand why VW expect Scirocco owners with 210 or 220 bhp petrol cars to be happy with 180 bhp when they next change cars? I know the R version exists but this is just too expensive (and not good value) for many people. No problem with having a 180 bhp option but please let's have a high...

Re: Damaged Wing Mirror
Things such as this are really annoying; they can be fixed properly but are expensive to do. Check with your VW dealer; they will tell you. I smashed the cover (white on your car) but it cost £230 to repairing, including painting. The only thing is if you have a nice car you don't want a bodged repa...

Re: Volkswagen Emission Scandal
How do you prove your car has lost money as a result of additional depreciation; to do this you would have to establish what it would have been worth had the scandal not occurred? If annual road tax was increased by say £20, you are talking small sums of money. If there is any compensation, it will ...

Re: VW cuts capital spending plans
The design of the Scirocco still looks great after 7 years which says VW got it right in the first place. However the car will need new underpinnings fairly soon to keep it competitive. I now drive a coupe based on the MQB platform and it's handling is certainly better. I suppose VW could decide not...

VW cuts capital spending plans
I see VW unsurprisingly are cutting back capital spending. It will be a real shame if the Scirocco does not get the major update it needs to keep it competitive over the coming years. Clearly high volume cars like the Golf will get priority in terms of development funds now and I wonder if say a cou...

Re: Goodbye Viper Green & Hello Black Editions.
Make no mistake; viper green has been dropped because it does not sell. I also suspect that anyone that has purchased a car in this colour will not find it easy to trade-in or sell-on.

Re: PCP Help
PCPs were developed by car manufacturers to boost sales. You are effectively leasing the car unless you buy it at the end of the (3 year) period. I don't like the lack of flexibility particularly if your financial circumstances change. I would rather go the personal loan route to finance a car which...

Re: What now diesel?
I am starting to think this whole VW diesel thing will blow over in time. British motorists see VW cars as well designed and built and VW owners don't want to see extra depreciation on their (diesel) cars. Give it a year or two and it will be 'what VW problem?' although I think more generally sales ...

I would not touch this under any circumstances. He pays off the finance and gives you written proof this is done before you hand over a penny. I would also want a current HPI check before handing over money. Better still forget this deal.

The new chairman of VW is talking about 'massive cutbacks' so I think it has to be far from certain that development funds for a Mk4 Scirocco are safe.

Re: Views on current used rocco market
Current VW crisis aside, the Scirocco is getting a bit long in the tooth in terms of model life and therefore I would expect used values to soften a bit over the coming months. When you drive a new model of any decent car, you see how far interiors and driver aid electronics have moved on since the ...

Re: Do they still do a 220BHP petrol Scirocco?
I am still not clear on VW's marketing strategy in terms of this engine. I now think they are saving the 230 bhp engine for 'top end' (ie high profit) models eg Audi TT and possibly a Scirocco GTS?
