Hi jumping on an old thread but my wife's 2010 tdi 170 has the exact same issue, judded to a stop today and recovered by the AA who told us the timing belt had snapped. After speaking with my wife and getting her version of events I tried cranking the engine a couple times and it started up! Perfect...
