Re: 170 TDI, the good and the bad...opinions wanted

having come from various high-ish powered petrols (s3/3.0 z4), I've been very pleasently surprised how little I hark back to them. Yes, I miss the revs & absolute potency, but for 90-95% of the time, I'm happier I'm in the 170 diesel. Consistent mpg performance & spritely enough for overtaki...

Re: Roof bars problem

sorry to hi-jack this thread, but have a couple of issues myself. I bought a second hand set of VW roof bars, but unfortunately it didn't come with the 'application aid' - i.e. what I assume is essentially a large credit card, for peeling back the window seals. 1. Do you use them, or do you have a b...

Re: Australia trip

Thanks Trix

We were going to do Adelaide / Melbourne via the Great Ocean road, but think it would be somewhat similar to South Africa, which we did 18 months ago, hence looking to do the 'traditional' Aussie hotspots

Australia trip

Hey y'all, We're planning a trip to Australia later this year. I've got some family in Perth & Sydney, so they are the only certainties thus far. Initial plan; London - Singapore (2 nights) Singapore - Perth (3 nights) Perth - Ayers Rock (2 nights) Ayers Rock - Cairns (3 nights) Cairns - Sydney ...

yup, keep mine super clean too.

Not hoovered as often as I might like due to time constraints, but don't let it get bad in the first place :)

Re: 1.4 TSi Vs 2.0 170 Diesel

Like markwiggy above, my previous two cars were powerful petrol (265bhp Beemer '6' & then Audi S3) and I'm very happy with my 170cr tdi. Bags of torque for lazy driving and overtaking, whilst doing superb mpg to boot.

And yet, it's my first diesel and I think it's great :)

Yup, my steering wheel buttons failed after a few weeks. Had to have the steering column electronics replaced. Took them a couple of attempts to diagnose, but all good these days :)

Re: Need quick advice, Leather or Cloth

I wanted leather, but found the right car without it - having had leather in my last 4 cars, I was disappointed, but don't regret not holding out for leather.

The cloth looks good, comfy, isn't hot/cold and saves a fair amount of £'s too. :)

Re: how much mpg you get?

with my 170tdi, (only done 4k miles) my actual average (not trip computer) is 46mpg, but as others have mentioned, it certainly gets better when the outside temperature increases, so I'm fairly happy with 46 so far

bring on spring/summer and a bedded-in engine :)

Re: Selling Up - Maybe ;-)

sorry to see you're having to contemplate the sale, but wish you luck anyway With regards to the finance - as a private buyer on a few occasions, even the mention of outstanding finance was enough to put me off to be honest. What car are you thinking about replacing it with - if it was within the VW...

and which bit of carpet are you referring to? Isn't there a hard plastic bit for where your heels are positioned?

Re: Setting up a forum

fair point Andy-GTI, but to be honest, like Kev has said, I live around quite a few houses (probably 20/30+) and whilst I'm happy talking to my neighbours, I don't really have time to speak to everyone. Plus, I thought the idea of being able to communicate about issues and share talents / specialism...

Setting up a forum

Hey all, Recently moved in to a new street and hoping to stay there for some time. I had a thought as to how to interact with our neighbours more, given we all spend more & more time on-line - set up a forum. Just wondering if anyone has had any experience of doing such a thing? It would be a pr...

Re: Interior mats - What are best?

I've got the 'normal' VW carpet mats, but for winter, I've just bought some generic Halfords rubber mats, and cut them to shape (using the VW ones as a template). They were 1/3 off too, so only cost £9.99

Happy days :)

I've just bought an SD card reader as Max Bullit suggested above, coupled with a Class 10 16gb SD card and works superbly. Very quick & no hassle. Happy days :)

Re: 170BHP VS 210BHP

i came from an S3 - whilst the top end power clearly isn't there in the 170tdi compared to the s3, for at least 90% of the time, the diesel is better in my opinion. It's economical & very torquey (great for overtaking easily), which for me are the key factors. Add the fact tax is low, insurance ...

Re: scirocco boot liner

I got mine from VW as well - the price in the above Ebay link is good considering it includes P&P, but if you drive past / near a VW dealer, you're probably better off doing it that way. I'm sure mine was £58, so you can save a bit on delivery if it suits

Re: Fitting a normal bluetooth to the 'roc?

Yup, Trix, that's correct. Basically, when I first connected my iphone, it paired but wouldn't call. So I then went down the route of researching which module I need to get (assuming I had the wrong one). Subsequently found it was the right one and therefore an issue with the phone or something else...

Re: Fitting a normal bluetooth to the 'roc?

to confirm, in my new gt 170, after an initial hiccup, it now works.

Item number (on eBay) 280561444631 was the same unit as in my car in case anyone is interested

Or search for part number 3C8035730A
