Re: Dreaded TSi block damage from cam chain tensioner
I was unfortunate to have the same issue. Heart breaking. In the end I got an independent garage to rebuild the engine with genuine VW parts. Total bill for me was about £3600. Must admit it never felt the same afterwards. Recently sold mine and the poor bugger who bought it has said the engine fail...

Re: Timing chain derailed
Reading this has got me paranoid haha , is this a common fault ? Is there anything you can do to prevent this from happening or is it just down to bad luck Here is some info about the fault http://www.golfmk6.com/forums/showthread.php?t=102001 You can get the chain tensioner replaced with the updat...

Re: Timing chain derailed
Ahhh sorry to hear. Same happened to me just before Christmas on a 2010 2.0 TSI. It ended up costing me around £3500  for a rebuild (new head, pistons, camshaft). Looks like I might have been overcharged if you can get a replacement engine fitted for 2k :grumpy: Good luck, hope you get it sorted.

Re: Preventative maintenance - Chain tensioner and DSG
Wow thats a bomb! What parts were damage then? was you on driving hard/fast when it let go? Damage to head, pistons, crankshaft from what I remember. Replaced with all VW parts. Worked out slightly cheaper than a second hand engine replacement. Nope I was starting it up in the morning. The damage w...

Re: Preventative maintenance - Chain tensioner and DSG
I think you are wise to get it done. My 2010 2.0 TSI had done more miles, 65k, but drove perfectly until it went. I heard a slight rattle every now and again on start up , but it was so minor I thought nothing of it (I was unaware of the tensioner issue). In the end it cost me ~£3500 for pretty much...

Re: Thinking of buying a Rocco, which model?
Find out when the engine was replaced if possible. Prob the same issue! I think they revised the part in 2012/2013 so if the engine was changed after that should be all good

Re: Thinking of buying a Rocco, which model?
I have had a 2010 Scirocco 2.0 TSi for just over a year. My advice to anyone thinking of buying a car with this engine is to listen out for a slight rattle when starting the car. There is a known fault with the chain tensioner on this engine and if fails will destroy the engine. It's just happened t...

strange noise when revs decrease
Hi all, Recently had my engine rebuilt after the dreaded time chain tensioner fault :grumpy: Everything is fine although I have since noticed a noise when revving. It is more noticeable from outside the car when the revs are decreasing. I am going to take it back to the garage for them to have a loo...

Wish I had done more research before buying the car
Mechanic is stripping the engine down tomorrow to assess the damage.

Engine damage 2.0 TSI Timing chain
Hi all, Looks like I have had extremely bad luck with my Scirocco which I purchased October last year. It is a 2010 2.0 TSI model, and has now done £65k. I went to start it one morning at the weekend, it turned over once then sounded like something went. It was then turning over quickly and not star...

Re: Good independent VAG specialist in Woking/Guildford area
Thanks, yeah seen a couple of reviews to say they were expensive. Not sure its worth me spending the money on a main dealer or expensive specialist for a service. The car is 6 years old now, more just thinking of resale value. Prob just find a good local garage who know what they are talking about. ...

Good independent VAG specialist in Woking/Guildford area?
Hi all,
Could anyone recommend a good independent VAG garage in Woking area? Had my roc for almost a year and it needs a service and MOT, would rather take it to a specialist and avoid main dealers.
Cheers

Check Oil Level Warning won't clear
Hi all, So the check oil level warning came on the other day. I normally check my oil regularly but it had been a while, and when I checked it was on the minimum mark. So I topped it up, now just below the maximum mark. The warning won't clear. When I turn the ignition on, it flashed on the MFD abou...

Re: HELP! How do you change the dipped Headlight Bulbs?
I've had this issue on my new 65 plate scirocco, couldn't get my hand into the light to twist the cap so, made this "key" and it worked a treat. Put it on the back of the bulb holder and twist.... Brilliant idea!! I couldn't undo the bulb holder no matter how much I tried. Found this post...

Wing mirror caps
Had a crap day yesterday, scraped my wing mirror on the way out of the work car park, and then curbed an alloy when getting back home :grumpy: So question is, do I just replace them with gloss black caps? I have an indium grey scirocco with no other mods. Or do I just find a matching replacement. Ca...

Re: Updating built in Sat-Nav
3810 fixed this for me, will fix all these problems. 3810 fixed this. I'm now running V10 (2014 if I recall correctly) maps with my 3810, so pretty recent, can probably go higher but it's all I could find at the time, not worth looking for the amount that I actually use it, Google Maps/Navigation o...

Re: Updating built in Sat-Nav
They say a more reliable method of upgrading the firmware is to not jump too many versions all at once. I upgraded mine from 1xxx to 3810 in one jump and it went perfectly, also mine now shows all the version info using the method described above. What is your actual reason for upgrading the firmwa...
