It's fixed! I sent it to Zoltan in Daventry http://www.rns510repairserviceuk.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; who repaired it for £90 + £10 p&p.
At last I have sounds back in the car. Now to sort out those tinny sounding speakers!

Re: RNS510 issue
I'm now waiting for a recovery disc to arrive to see it that works. If that fails, then it's off to Cartronics to whip it out and diagnose the issue. That's £75. I fear the motherboard is knackered which is another £300.
Surely VW should contribute if there's a known problem?

Re: High revs, Engine Shaking Car
I had something similar with 1.4 160. I did the diagnostics thing which came up as a misfire on cylinder 1. After some swapping around of spark plugs and coil packs which made no difference, a new injector was fitted and all was fine again. Unfortunately mine was out of warranty so my pocket was hit...

Re: Rough running.
How did you get on? I had the same problem on 1.4tsi - ended up with a new injector on Cylinder 1 after testing all sparks and coil packs - fairly common at around 40k miles by the sounds of things. Just hope the other 3 dont go anytime soon!

Re: 1.4 Tsi (160) rough idle, bouncing Rev counter and hesit
I had this up at around the 70mph mark when accelerating. The exhaust emissions light eventually came on. After a couple of diagnostics, i had to have a new injector in cylinder 1 (they tried swapping around coil packs and spark plugs first, re-daignosing and coming up with the answer). Purrs like a...

Re: RNS510 issue
I havent got the correct tools to remove the unit, but ive disconnected the battery and that hasn't helped.
Ive purchased a new firmware disc which is due tomorrow. hopefully that will do the trick!

RNS510 issue
Any ideas on my misbehaving RNS510? Seems stuck on a loop of trying to turn on then turning straight off again. Tried the reset (pressed both left and right button with info button) but to no avail. Unit doesn't work at all so no sounds or sat nav. Read some posts from a few years ago on updating fi...

Re: Rough running.
Had the same problem on my 1.4 160 - ended up with a new injector on Cylinder 1 - runs like a dream now, shame my wallet was battered for around £400! Seemingly this is quite common at around the 40,000 mile mark.
