Always best to go via the TP where possible as it's in their interest to reduce the costs by getting it sorted quickly and giving u what u want in terms of repair. Good work.

Re: Good insurance company's?
@dimexi if someone hit you - you could chose to go via the third party and they're more likely to say yes to u using VW repairer as ultimately they'll be footing the bill so will limit costs and time in hire . Worth a go

Re: lying about an accident
Witness statements and any evidence to the insurer - it's sometimes a tough slog liability. So glad I got the dash cam. Best £20 I ever spent. So many idiots out there and everyone disputes liability these days.

Re: 1.4 tsi Engine Rebuild?
I had the full rebuild done after mis firing on cylinder 4, cracked piston, £2408 from a garage I've used for 10 years plus and trust, main dealer wanted to take engine apart to investigate but I know from my experience with main dealer when my dsg went once your cars in bits they've got u by the ba...

You can hardware using a piggy back fuse thing but I just thought I would use the socket and see how I got on first. Seems to have done me ok.

Re: Dash Cam
I use the socket in the boot and ran the wire the length of the car. I take my camera down when I leave the car though it's just for driving (don't want to encourage anyone to break in and steal anything by leaving on display) works fine for me.

Re: Dreaded 1.4 160 PS Missfire
Return the car under sale of goods act as u r within 6 months take it back to the dealership and say it's not fit for purpose is faulty and leave it up to them to ascertain what issue is. It's their job to put it right - get on to vw on Twitter as well they hate bad press. That'll get vw customer se...

Re: Dreaded 1.4 160 PS Missfire
This should be covered under warranty however warranty doesn't cover diagnostic - it is unlikely they will determine the issue without taking the head off, as the scan will just state there's a mis fire and what cylinder. Make sure they clarify who is liable for the costs of labour for taking head o...

Re: Grinding drivers side window
Any scratches appearing on the window glass ? Sounds like a bit of grit stuck on the seal and when u wound it down it pulled it onto the rubber. May be worth lifting it and giving it a clean.

Re: GAP insurance.
Gap only covers the gap between what your insurers pay you and any outstanding finance or difference between that and market value. It's only really any good for brand new cars for first year and most insurers do new car replacement for first year anyway so it's not really useful - especially if ur ...

Re: New key cutting & coding
I don't think it works like that, there's a key tag they sent u. Attach to keys then any keys that are lost can be claimed for including reprogramming of the cars immobiliser / door locks for house keys etc. Up to about 1500 no policy excess. Mine cost £12 - it's an add on most insurance companies o...

Re: Wheel Alignment
Kwik fit used to check tracking free it was adjustment that cost. May be worth looking up online as these places should have fairly standardised prices for each service they offer. Defo get a second opinion as that doesn't sound right.

Re: Warranty 1.4 tsi 160
Steer clear of VGS warranty. Had a fracked piston in mine and they refused to pay as hadn't completely broken. I argued that it was mis firing and to diagnose this issue after replacing all parts outside the block/head it needed to come apart and we found the cracked piston (and severely worn valves...

Re: My Rocco - Bought Last Week
Black badges and mirror caps would look good on this especially with those wheels and that roof. Easy cheap cosmetic mods. Definitely looks lowered as the arch gap as standard is huge and here it looks bang on. So probably lowered at least 20mm to achieve this.

VW Colchester where I live don't charge fitting they charge for the bulb. Did my headlamp for <5 - I would do it myself for fogs, or go Halfords.

Re: EPC & Engine management lights flashing.
I had mine done last month. It wasn't cheap but I've used the garage for 10 years with various cars. It's local to me in Essex. So a long way from Birmingham. They had to do a full rebuild, replaced all valves and pistons and all seals etc. Mine was cylinder 4, hairline crack in cylinder - what mile...

Is it under warranty? I'm from Essex and used a garage I trust. Have u asked VW for a quote and if they'll offer goodwill at all given as its a known issu?
