Re: GT 170. MPG
whitedevil170: My scirocco was good from the off (apart from the step up in power experienced at approx 500km which I assumed was down to some running in program). 53mpg on the journey home it was achieving almost the same mpg as it is now. Hoping this GTD improves a lot in mpg as the miles go on, i...

Re: GT 170. MPG
As per Cuprabob. 5 miles to water temp being 90C, Oil is generally 30C behind the water when warming up. My GTD mpg is abysmal right now, i'm hoping it is because indicated mpg (on the MFD) is close to reality e.g. 45mpg MFD = 45mpg actual (won't know until I have got through my first tank and fill ...

Re: GT 170. MPG
In the summer with only sidelights on and using the aircon above 40mph (windows open below 40 if you need to stay cool – after that wind resistance negates any gains from not having the aircon on) I get around 50mpg (indicated – 46mpg actual) on my 12 mile mixed roads commute without driving it like...

Re: Incident
I wouldn't leave it to her to find a repairer or ascertain the damage beyond the obvious. Do you have rear parking sensors? Since my rear shunt, the drivers side corner parking sensor doen't see to be as responsive as the other 3. Finding a repairer locally with a good reputation is the hardest bit....

Re: Timing belt gone!
I would try VW for goodwill, but it may only cover parts and not labour - which will still be expensive. Maybe getting the car hooked up to VAGCOM would confirm that the EML already on when you put it in for service was completely unrelated to the timing chain tension - if that is the case then you ...

Re: Getting time for a change
I'm waiting on a MK7 GTI after owning two Sciroccos but the lead times are nuts. I ordered in March and the cars still not built. Similar situation - order for GTD officially accepted by VW on 29th March, confirmed build for w/c 12th August. If it is here for first week in Sept it will have been a ...

Re: Thinking of coming back!
its a pity VW don't break from tradition and do a diesel Golf GTI with otherwise identical spec and looks to the petrol GTI. Have you seen the MK7 GTD? It has different wheels (arguably better looking on the GTD - the 19" upgrade costs same for both GTI and GTD, so they are equivalent value), ...

Re: Scirocco gone
Mine's going soon too. I ordered a Golf GTD - 24 weeks wait from point of ordering to anticipated delivery in first week of September. Due to strict allocations per dealer (1 a month each dealership on average) and a dealership order amendment cock-up that put my car further down the list than my da...

£10?!? I bought a set of 20 from my dealership 2 years ago for acid bleaching, they were about £3.50 total.

Re: Water in the gas tank...
Contact the filling station immediately and ask them what they're going to do about it. If they refute responsibility it's time to either cop the damage costs via your insurance to get it resolved quickly or tell them you're taking legal advice and contact the legal cover of your car insurance if yo...

Re: Scirocco R Gearknob
If you're willing to consider 2nd hand I have one that is like new, comes with silver/grey stitching. It is a proper "R" one, bought from an ebay seller in Portugal who I assume works at the Scirocco/EOS plant and lifts them off the line. I'm expecting a new Golf MK7 GTD shortly, so i'll b...

Re: GT 170. MPG
Well now had a few fill ups in the slightly warmer weather and have managed averages of 41 - 44 mpg per each tank. This is by calculating it manually as the trip is slightly lower. The oil is taking at least 15-20 minutes to reach 90 which seems a while. One trip from Norwich to Peterborough only s...

Re: GT 170. MPG
As some of the other posters - 5 mins to get to 50C oil temp/70C water temp and 3 mins after that oil is at 90C. In current temps I average50mpg on a mixed 12 mile commute (indicated). On an 80mph run for at least 30 miles on dual carriageway/motorway I can expect 54 mpg now, and58- 60mpg in the hei...

Re: Can you be to old to modify a car?
Depends on the mod. If it will truly make it better and it is done properly, then why put an age cap on. If you're talking "barry boy" style Halfords bodykits attached with woodscrews then I think the age limit is about 19.

Re: Am I asking too much?
One key think you have to remember, valuations are only a guide and the "actual" value is what someone, whether it be a dealer or an individual, is willing to pay for it. There are regional variations to consider too. Used cars up in the North East generally sell cheaper like-for-like tha...

Re: Am I asking too much?
Most medium volume dealerships will get around 20% margin on a full RRP sale for a new car (maybe 25% if they get the VW volume bonuses), and they can afford to cut into their margins with discounts yet yours wants to make 23% on the used value if they discount it to £16k, and 30% if they sell it fo...

Re: Who has/will try the HHO kit?
Electrolytical splitting of water into oxygen and hydrogen to recombust consumes more energy than it liberates, if it liberated more energy than it took in to allow the split to happen then we'd be creating energy - something we can't do. Whatever fuel gains could be made via reduction iin direct pe...
