Re: TSI 160 and P2263
The turbo on these engines have a known issue with seizing wastegates. If you have a manual vacuum hand pump attach this to the wastegate actuator and try working it to see if you have a vacuum supply issue. To check if the wastegate is siezed remove the actuator from the lever and work the lever by...

Re: Why are ECU updates required ?
As above. The manufacturer is constantly making software modifications in order to reduce the chance of known faults occouring or to improve the running of the car.

Re: 0-60 Times?
It is widely regarded that VW understate most of their 0-60 times for better insurance grouping (although not conclusively proven). My 2.0tdi 140 is much faster than the 9 seconds it claims even if you time it to 65, it's more like 7.8s. My 122tsi before that also the same. It is also thought that m...

Re: Bought a 59 plate with 68k miles, change chain tensioner
Cant really blame you considering the cost of a new engine for these :eyepop: When i got my 122 done it was about b****cksed, only had 50,000 on the clock  Started with a slight rattle on start up. Worst thing is that my VW dealer said it was virtually unheard of, but plenty of horror stor...

Re: Bought a 59 plate with 68k miles, change chain tensioner
If you have the original part numbers fitted and you have the money then there is certainly nothing negative about getting it done. It will certainly save you hassle in the future if it were to fail. The superceded part numbers are of much higher quality. I've routinely changed a lot of Ford 1.8tdci...

Re: New owner with strange sounds suggestions?
I'm unsure what to suggest regarding the grinding noise but for the above poster with a knocking when pulling off please check the bolts on your N/S engine mount under the battery box. If these are loose then the engine will hit the bulkhead when setting off. Also check the subframe bolts are all ti...

Re: Bought a 59 plate with 68k miles, change chain tensioner
Obviously if you have the money and want the peice of mind its worth doing but i wouldn't be scrimping and saving just to get it done, just incase it fails, its an expensive job. Thats my mentality with it - Obviously if you do motorway driving and it spits its dummy out at 70mph its a bigger issue ...

Re: Bought a 59 plate with 68k miles, change chain tensioner
For those unsure about getting this done, a common telltale sign that this could be an issue is a 2 second rattle on startup. These are tensioned on oil pressure and once the tensioner becomes defective it will start weeping oil past the seal overnight and losing their tension, and the chain will ra...

Regarding the 2.0tdi, excessive idle time in cold conditions can cause what seems to be white smoke when accelerating but is only just condensation.

Wihout access to a multimeter to check for resistance in the wiring loom to that bulb it would be worth making a simple check and that is to make sure the bulb is of the correct wattage. It's possible that the original bulb was on its way out and not working at full power causing the warning light. ...

As someone has mentioned above regarding the boot clips a special tool is required to crimp them tight enough but horseshoe nail pullers will suffice and are available for less than £10 on eBay.

Re: Changing the tensioner on a 2.0 tsi
I'm not sure with regards to this particular engine but usually chain tensioners that are tensioned by oil pressure are accessible to remove without any serious strip downs as they usually screw into the block and resemble a large bolt. Sometimes covered inconveniently by things like power steering ...

Re: Scirocco 1.4 160 Engine noise
Unusual noise from the video but I suspect that is the quality of the audio making it difficult to hear properly. Usually noises like this that are directly related to clutch application and release are either release bearing/slave cylinder or dual mass flywheel. I'm not sure if the 1.4 TSI is fitte...

Re: Turbo Issues, help much appreciated!!
Sorry for the late response. Had this before with the turbo causing hesitating and stuttering acceleration. It was the wastegate siezed and causing an overboosting situation because it wasn't opening fully. If you want to confirm this yourself, take the heat shield off the the turbo and you'll see t...

Interesting race...
Me and a work collegue were interested how our cars would fare in a race so we took to the disused aerodrome to find out. (nearly 2 miles long) I drive a scirocco 170tdi DSG He drives a Fiesta ST 2.0 (150bhp) And the results were interesting.. Upon launch I struggled due to the usual DSG delay, whic...
