I still struggle to get over 45 mpg with A/C off!! Best ever is just under 50 mpg. And my trip is very optimistic too.
Mostly drive on motorways, long trips, at around 75 mph.
70 mpg. Free wheeling everywhere?

Re: New Windscreen.
No. Not had it done yet as previous experience has shown me that I'll get it done and immediately chip the new one too. So waiting for the 2nd hit at the moment although chip is starting to crack more and more. Won't pass MOT come October! Apparently screen so expensive due to winter pack sensors wi...

New Windscreen.
Stone chip which is too big to repair means I need a new screen. 1st Autoglass quote was around £650 which when challenged dropped rapidly to just below £450. Company car and our insurance doesn't cover screens, so whilst ultimately I'm not paying, hate to think I'm getting ripped off. Anyone else h...

Re: GT 170. MPG
I do mainly long motorway runs and tend to set cruise at 78 mph (sat nav reading). Lucky to see 45 mpg on car computer which is very generous. Actual is nearer 42/43 mpg. Round town or if I get heavy with the right foot and it drops to mid-30s and below!!

Re: Newbie Questions
You get mid to upper fifties from a 170 TDi? I'm lucky if I get above 45 mpg from mostly long motorway runs!!

Re: Broken turbo on TDI
Are you sure it's the turbo?
Had a similar problem with mine - loss of power, glow plug light on and report to garage message (at 50,000 miles on 60 plate) and it was the throttle pedal. A faulty sensor or something? Known problem by VW. Problem did come and go though.

Check the link below for an updated MDI firmware (Issue 3.) http://www.my-gti.com/3148/volkswagen-media-device-interface-mdi-firmware-upgrades" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; I had a similar issue with my car (but to be honest not as often) and a firmware update fixed it :)...

Re: Help please.
Thanks for your prompt reply. 1. I'm anal enough to work out the mpg manually too (always fill/brim tank) and have found the computer over states each tank's mpg, sometimes by 2 or 3 mpg. If I want to drive like a hooligan, can get the mpg down to the low 30's! 2. Thanks for the reassurance. Had a q...

Help please.
As a Newbie, hopefully I'm posting this in the right place. I have a 60 plate 170 Diesel that was factory built and delivered mid-October 2010. Great car that has now done 50,000 mainly motorway miles. I have 3 issues I hope others can tell me how to get over or convince me are normal. 1. Since deli...
