Re: Recall for tailgate struts
I got the recall done when I replaced my UK headlights for continental ones last year. If I remember correctly it was something to do with corrosion to the surface of the retaining nut. Probably a bad batch or something like that, nothing to be overly concerned about but does bring into question the...

Re: Free Unwanted option that I want shot of...
It seems as if you are just being particularly unfortunate with the bad drivers you are encountering at present. I would have thought that the permanent driving lights would have helped make your car more visible to other road users, but obviously not. After a year of driving one it is not something...

Re: Victim of the Snow
Winter tyres are not a mandatory requirement in Germany either, however if you do have a crash in winter conditions and the Police feel it is a contributing factor they can decide to prosecute. The Insurance companies also take this into consideration and may only payout a percentage of the damage t...

Re: How many miles on your new car?
I had six on mine. However in the past was I told a new car would be ready on the Tuesday and because of work I could not pick it up until the Friday. Even though it was regestered from the Friday it had 56 miles on the clock and I was not a happy bunny at the thought of some scrote of a sales man t...

Re: Sloshing fuel tank
I’ve never noticed this myself.
I thought that the internal baffles in the tank would reduce the fuel sloshing around to large degree and what there is would be less than the engine / road noise.
But I have a drive around the next time I fill up and listen out for it.

Re: Taking Home Delivery (of my car) Advice
I got a car from Jamjar.com a few years ago and it had scuffs on the wheels that I had not noticed from the strops that had secured it to the trailer.
I would pay particular attention to those areas and make sure I was present during the unloading.

Re: Video: My Scirocco TDI 170 0n the german autobahn
It is always good to put the footdown on the Autobahn (when traffic and road conditions allow). But it does take some getting used to flying by a Police car on unrestricted sections without the fear of points or a fine (a bit like going through security at an airport, I know I've done nothing wrong ...

Re: What Next?
I’ll be getting rid of mine in May of next year it will be 13 months old and I expect to have done about 7,000 miles by then.
As for my next car I don’t really know what to go for I’ll see how I feel at the time and what good offers are on the go at the time.

Re: What do you generally carry around in the boot!?
AL i'd love to know the reason behind the dictionary if you ever remember... I was charged with drunk driving and took it home to prepare my written statement to hand into the police and it has been in my boot ever since. Before I get flamed, I was on a bicycle, I have never been near my car whilst...

First Aid Kit, Warning Triangle and Hi visibility vest (all mandatory by law)
The spare litre of oil, a Childs booster seat and for some strange reason that I can’t quite remember an Oxford English Dictionary.

Re: Rear wiper cover
I had to replace the full wiper arm and cover after it got ripped off in a car wash (it is illegal to was your car in the street out here due to environmental laws in case of ground water contamination). :( It was not the most substantial construction, I now use a car wash where they put a polythene...

Re: Warranty...
With regard to the insurance it is because by adding different alloys from standard it makes it more attractive to the less honest people out there and therefore at greater risk. They would more than likely not change the premium but it is always better to be safe than sorry and tell them anyway rat...

Re: Warranty...
As long as they fitted correctly onto the hub and had the correctly rated tyres I don’t see the reason why not.
It could however invalidate your insurance cover if you did not tell them that it was no longer standard.

Re: Selling
If it was myself and I was selling private, I would take any potential buyer out for a spin in it with me behind the wheel if I was not 100% happy with the buyer for whatever reason. There is very little to be gained with letting him / her drive it and a whole lot to loose, I know of several garages...

Re: Rear Fog Lights
I had to get my fog light changed from the right to the left so that I could register it out here. I put it into the local VW dealer (Türks) to get it done on the VAG.COM. When I went to collect the car they said it could not be done on the computer for some reason or other and had ran a trailing wi...

Re: Scirocco pricing; then and now
Thanks for that Trix, I was not sure if I had worked it out correctly. One of the advantages of life out here is it is against the law to wash your car in the street so lazy people like me don't look out of place when driving a dirty car and if it does need a spruce up it is a quick run to the carwa...

Re: Scirocco pricing; then and now
Mine is actually a RHD model, but because of the hassel of selling a LHD model before I return to Scotland it just saves a lot of hassel to drive on the wrong side of the road for the time I'm over here. The problem I can see is not buying the car in the UK to whatever specification you like (LHD or...

I ordered mine on the 6th March 2009 and collected it on the 17th April 2009 from the UK. I get a government discount and don’t pay tax whilst in Germany so for my Scirocco 2.0 GT FSi it came in at.
