Re: Need info on insurance and mods

Hmmmm, will just have to get on with it I suppose. The price to pay for wanting a Scirocco at 24 lol  But next year you will be 25 and no longer a young driver in insurance eyes so will probably get a better deal somewhere. Worth trying LV. They sometimes surprise you but you need to watch for...

Re: Rust on door sill opening

Had this problem on my 2011 TSI - just a small mark down to the primer caused by the door rubber seal on the sill that was sorted with a touch up brush and polish. These doors are quite heavy and a good fit normally so only need to drop a fraction for the rubbing to start on the paintwork.

Re: Replacing the pistons before cracking

Not been on the forum for a while and just vising out of continuing interest. The early 1.4 twin chargers had the piston problems. I believe that by 2012 all the gremlins had been sorted - pistons and timing chains. Mine was a 2011 and never had any problems and that had stage 1 - done 60k miles whe...

Re: Carbon build up?

The problem with modern fuel injection engines is that fuel does not go near the intake valves to help keep them clean like it used to in the past. The engine recirculating system does recycle oil fumes from the sump and mix it with fresh air from the intake box with the resultant carbon build up. W...

Any idea how much that costs to replace? "by skippy » Sat Aug 02, 2014 9:36 pm To be honest, I have never heard of this issue affecting the Scirocco, there have been some failures on the Golf (as mentioned above), but it is not an issue lose sleep over." VW have produced a 'kit' that is c...

Re: Scirocco or Golf 6 GTI?

I have owned both and liked them both for different reasons. I think the Scirocco is the best looking car produced by VW in a long time. The golf is more practical for a family. If it is 2015 then it should be a Mk VII (7) not VI (6) as the MK 6 was built from 2009 to 2013. The MK 7 came with 2 engi...

Re: 1.4 TSI Timing Chain

AA engineer is correct not to drive until everything is checked out. You do not say what year the car is? Timing out on these engines can be serious and can require a new engine if valves have hit pistons(OEM VW about £6k but reconditioned a bit cheaper). If you are lucky it could just be the camsha...

Re: Scirocco 1.4TSI 160

I had a 2011 Scirocco from new. Checked the plugs, coils when I got it after reading RW1 advice. Had stage 1 to just over 180ps. Did 58k and had no problems at all. Lovely engine, economical and lots of fun. By 2013 as said above the problems had all been sorted.

Re: Dead radio after battery died

There is a fuse at the rear of the radio that may have blown but think it unlikely if the battery just died. The link below shows the connectors for an RNS510 and the position of the fuse. The diagram is from a mk 5 golf manual but connectors etc are the same. http://workshop-manuals.com/volkswagen/...

Agree with Deagol and also check that the wear across and around the old rear tyres is even. Rears frequently become ridged on the inner edge.

I used autotrader. Worked fine. They do not give out your details but do vet all enquiries so reduces the number of timewasters.

Has anyone with a 170 had it done yet? How's it run after the update? Mines a 60reg 170 DSG and received the letter today My reply would be this: how is your car running now? Is it going well? If so why mess with it. Do you really need a free pen and mug that badly? Or maybe £3000!! if you join the...

Re: Engine Start/Stop Issue

The method I heard about was to set the voltage at which start/stop works via VCDS to above 14v. If the battery voltage is below the set voltage then the start/stop will not operate. Not tried it yet as I do not have access to VCDS that will work with a 2016 car.

Re: Possible sale of my beloved car.

Pistonheads has worked well for me in the past. However, these days noatter where you advertise you still have to deal with the chances and time wasters. Private sales of anything but cheap cars are difficult due to people wanting access to finance and being able to trade in the old one. I would ec...

Hello Salsajoe, I like the look of the GTI and I enjoy the DSG, makes a pleasant change from the manual box in my Scirocco but I suppose it is nice to have the choice of both. Hope you enjoy the GTI, and will be interested to hear any further ownership views you have on it. Thank you again. Skippy,...
